Outdoor Winter Adventures
Pennsylvania’s vast natural landscapes create an ideal setting for an outdoor winter adventure. Wildwood Park has lovely nature trails where you can spot wildlife around the lake. Board the Millersburg Ferry for stunning views of the Susquehanna River and several historic sites. Here, you can capture a photo of the Rockville Bridge, the world’s longest arched stone railroad bridge. Little Buffalo State Park boasts eight miles of hiking trails and opportunities for boating, camping, and fishing in winter.
Don’t miss the chance to meet the friendly animals at ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park, conveniently located next to Hersheypark and included in your admission. Echo Dell – Indian Echo Caverns is known for its expansive underground cave network tours; you can also explore their seasonal petting zoo and try gem mining above ground.
Season on Stage
Located in downtown Hershey, the Hershey Theatre is the area’s premier performing arts center. It regularly presents Broadway shows, concerts, comedy shows, classical music, and other well-known entertainers.
Winter is usually the theatre’s busiest season, with Broadway performances and ballet shows like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker beginning in November and running through December. This is also the best time of year to catch a symphony or classical music performance.
Explore Museums
The Hershey and Harrisburg area is home to many museums that offer a delightful blend of history, culture, and, of course, chocolate! These are the museums we recommend visiting:
- Hershey’s Chocolate World: More of an amusement park than a museum, Hershey’s Chocolate World is a site you will not want to miss. This attraction offers a multi-faceted experience with a chocolate tour ride, tastings, theater, and much more.
- Pennsylvania State Capitol Building: The Pennsylvania State Capitol Building in Harrisburg has paintings, statues, beautiful décor, and centuries of state history. President Teddy Roosevelt called this building “the handsomest building I ever saw.”
- The Hershey Story Museum: Located on Chocolate Avenue in downtown Hershey, this exceptionally well-designed museum is a more educational take on the history of Hershey’s Chocolate Company.
- The National Civil War Museum: It is one of the largest museums in the world dedicated to the American Civil War.
- The State Museum of Pennsylvania: You could spend more than one day visiting this museum. It has everything, from ancient fossils to modern marvels (and a planetarium, too!). This museum has something for everyone.
Fort Hunter Mansion and Park: This historic mansion and 40-acre park are just north of Harrisburg. Guided tours of the mansion are available.
Sports
In winter, one sport reigns supreme…hockey! Catch a Hershey Bears home game at the Giant Center. The Hershey Bears are a minor league affiliate of the Washington Capitals, meaning home games bring the excitement of professional hockey right to Hershey.
Take a Break
Adventures are fun, but sometimes you just need a break. Here in Hershey, we have made relaxation an art form with some of the state’s best restaurants, spas, and desserts.
In Pennsylvania, we believe that happy cows make happy ice cream. Fox Meadows Creamery lives by this creed, making hand-crafted ice cream on-site with milk from its small dairy farm across the field. Order a chocolate Baked Fox while you’re there…trust us!
If you still need dessert, head to Turkey Hill Experience to learn how to make ice cream, ride in a milk truck, and make your own pint to take home.
Indulge in sweet, sweet relaxation during your winter stay in Hershey. The town has two luxury spas, the Spa at the Hotel Hershey and MeltSpa by Hershey. Both have an impressive selection of facial, massage, and body treatments. They also offer signature spa packages and salon services. The teams at these spas have made relaxation an art form.
