THE NATIONAL CIVIL WAR MUSEUM

ONE LINCOLN CIRCLE AT RESERVOIR

HARRISBURG, PA

To understand what has made our great country what it is..one needs to look to the past.

Opening its doors in 2001, The National Civil War Museum offers an insightful glimpse into that past..documenting and cataloging four years of that war (1861-1865) as well as before the war and the aftermath, encompassing the years of 1850-1876.  Thousands of artifacts and documents are available for public viewing, as well as many thousand more securely stored for future exhibits,  scholarly research, museum members and private appointment. In 2009, the museum became an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

The museum exhibits were designed and formulated to tell “the entire story of the American Civil War … without bias to the Union or Confederate causes”. Comprised of changing and permanent exhibits, “Meet Mr. Lincoln” is the newest permanent, interactive exhibit.
